Financial Aid
Departmental assistantships are awarded each year on a competitive basis. Each student who applies for an assistantship is evaluated by the Graduate Committee. Selections are based on the applicant's academic record, test scores, recommendations, and other pertinent information. Recipients of these assistantships must be fully admitted to the Graduate School in a degree seeking status. Students must continue to be a full-time student taking at least nine hours of credit per semester.
Students on a 35% time assistantship are required to provide a total of 14 hours per week of assistance to the department's research-instruction programs. Academic and work performance will be evaluated each semester and stipends for subsequent semesters will be based on satisfactory performance. As a matter of policy, assistantships for M.S. candidates will not be extended beyond a total of 24 months, and Ph.D. candidates will not be extended beyond a total of 48 months. Students on a 35% time assistantship are required to take a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester during the academic year and 6 credit hours during the summer semester. Twelve credit hours is the maximum load permitted without special approval of the Graduate Dean.
