Application Requirements

To apply to the Graduate School at the University of Georgia, students must submit:

An application form (to download form, click here)
An official undergraduate transcript; students who have already earned an M.S. degree should also submit a graduate school transcript
Results of the GRE examination
$50 application processing fee

International applications must also submit:

Results of the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)—see below
Certificate of Finances Form
Financial Certification Statement and Visa Information

In addition to the Graduate School requirements, students applying to the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics must submit:

Three letters of recommendation

We strongly encourage applicants to obtain the application form electronically through the Graduate School web site (www.gradsch.uga.edu), which provides detailed information on application requirements and procedures. Applicants to the field of Agricultural Economics need not have majored in agricultural economics or economics as undergraduates to be considered for admission to the M.S. program. Deficiencies in preparation, however, will lengthen the graduate program. Incoming Ph.D. students are expected to have good preparation in micro- and macroeconomic theory, math, and quantitative methods at the M.S. level.

Minimum Requirements:

M.S. Applicants

GRE	–	800 (verbal and quantitative)
GPA	–	2.6
TOEFL	–	213 computer-based, 550 paper-based

Ph.D. Applicants

GRE	–	1000 (verbal and quantitative)
GPA	–	3.0 undergraduate, 3.5 graduate
TOEFL	–	213 computer-based, 550 paper-based

However, the merits of each applicant are considered individually.

English Proficiency

Proficiency in English is required of all international applicants. Applicants whose native language is not English must take the TOEFL unless they have studied for two or more years in, or received a degree from, a college or university in a country where English is both the language of instruction and the native language. If the TOEFL must be taken, a minimum TOEFL score of 213 on the computer-based format or 550 on the paper-based format is required for admission.

Departmental Assistantships

To receive full consideration for graduate assistantships, assistantship application must be made by February 15 for the subsequent Fall term. To download a departmental assistantship form, click here.

Graduate School Assistantships

All general application admission materials must be received in the Office of Graduate Admissions by January 1. Applicants must be admitted as prospective degree candidates by February.
